Communities We Serve

The men and women of CJC proudly serve the communities of Blue Springs, Grain Valley, Lake Tapawingo, and some surrounding unincorporated Jackson County. This includes service for approximately 80,000 residents, 1900 businesses, and visitors.

We currently staff 4 engines, a ladder truck, and 5 ambulances from 5 stations. There are 36 firefighters assigned to each of three 24 shifts. All firefighters are either EMT or Paramedic trained and certified in basic hazardous materials response.

Community Risk Reduction – Fire

The Fire Prevention Division of our Community Risk Reduction Bureau designs programs to reduce life and property loss through fire inspections, public fire safety education, and fire origin and causes investigation.

Our facility includes a live burn building used for things such as search and rescue, rappelling, and live fire training experiences.

Certified EMS Training

The CJC Emergency Medical training division offers certified training for emergency medical technicians and paramedics and provides other EMS related programs such as Advance Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Emergency Pediatric Care (EPC). All classes provide the skills and knowledge needed to challenge agency, state, or national testing.

Ems Training Course

Responding to 8000 Calls Each Year

CJC responds to approximately 8,000 calls for help per year for fires, emergency medical care, hazardous materials incidents, and heavy rescue needs.

Technical Rescue Team

The CJC heavy rescue team is trained and equipped for events caused by structural collapse, ice events, confined spaces, swift water, and high elevation emergencies. The team is made up of 30 members and is not only one of 4 teams that are regional assets but can also be used in statewide and national level emergencies such as the tornado in Joplin and the floods in Houston.

Haz Mat Team

The CJC Haz Mat Team is trained to respond to incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, and explosive hazards. The Tri-District Haz Mat Response Team is a cooperative between CJC, Sni Valley Fire Protection District, and Fort Osage Fire Protection District. The Tri-District team is one of 7 regional response teams and can be used as a statewide asset.
