Central Jackson County Fire Protection District takes pride in educating the public in a number of areas. By educating our school children, parents, and business men and women we are making a difference; not only for them but for us as well. With public education and fire prevention programs in place we have seen enormous community growth while fire and property loss has remained minimal.
Public Education Events
Adopt-a-School
A.A.S. is a program developed in1998 and has been going strong for the past six school years. Each fire company adopts 4th grade classes within the school districts throughout the Blue Springs and Grain Valley. Once a month they meet with the children and talk about different issues relating to home and fire safety. The program begins in September and continues until May. In May, the kids usually go on a field trip to the fire station that houses their new mentors and they learn about their way of living at the fire station. The fire crew can BBQ hot-dogs, order pizza etc., give tours, then end the day with water related activities and games. As of 2004 we have adopted 45 4th grade classes.
CJC Station Tours
CJC conducts station tours by appointment. We can conduct a tour at any one of our five stations; however most are scheduled at our administrative building located at 805 NE Jefferson Street in Blue Springs. A typical tour consists; of a safety video, watching a firefighter get all dressed up in his bunker gear, a walk-through of the station, and a look at the fire trucks. If the tour takes place at the administrative building you may also be able to view the inside of LifeFlight Eagle helicopter which is based at this facility. To schedule a station tour contacts our inspection staff at 816-229-2522. We require a 2 week notice to plan our schedules.
